This model shows the general function of the Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor where the channel that is embedded in the cell membrane is closed and will only open in the presence of the ligand Acetylcholine allowing for sodium (Na) to enter the cell. This event triggers the depolarization of the cell membrane allowing for the transmission of an action potential.
