It is required for the association of the 30S and 50S subunits and is involved in the binding of tRNA at the A- and P-sites[1]. In the archaea like in Haloarcula marismortui, the L2 is called L2P (RPL2P). The structure of the RNA-binding domain of L2 from Bacillus stearothermophilus is shown on the right[2].
