Phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PNMT) catalyzes the conversion of norepinephrine (noradrenaline) to epinephrine (adrenaline). This is the last step in the conversion of tyrosine to adrenaline. S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine (AdoHcy) by itself or with other ligands are inhibitors of PNMT. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative PNMT, i.e. the crystal structure of Phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (3kpj).
