α-Galactosidase (Agal) hydrolyzes the terminal α-galactosyl moiety from glycoproteins and glycolipids. β-Galactosidase hydrolyzes β-galactosides into monosaccharides. IPTG induces Bgal activity. PETG is an inhibitor. Galcatose, lactose, ONPG are substrates. Galactopyranosyl is reaction intermediate. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative Galactosidase, i.e. the crystal structure of Galactosidase from Escherichia coli (3e1f).
