Susceptibility determination in the A. baumannii background and kinetic studies with a homogeneous preparation of OXA-23 beta-lactamase, the major carbapenemase present in A. baumannii, document the ability of this enzyme to manifest resistance to last-resort carbapenem antibiotics.
