Function

Blue copper oxidase CueO (CueO) is an E. coli enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of Cu+1 to Cu+2 resulting in the detoxification of copper by the prevention of its uptake into the cytoplasm.

Relevance

CueO is involved in prevention of oxidative damage in the periplasm.

Structural highlights

The Cu moieties are coordinated by at least 2 histidine residues.
