Flurbiprofen is a member of the phenylalkanoic acid derivative family of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is primarily indicated as a pre-operative anti-miotic (in an ophthalmic solution) as well as orally for arthritis or dental pain. Side effects are analogous to those of [[ibuprofen]]. See also [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flurbiprofen Flurbiprofen].

NSAIDs such as Flurbiprofen work by inhibiting the [[cyclooxygenase]] (COX) enzymes, which convert <scene name='97/973110/Cv/3'>arachidonic acid</scene> to <scene name='42/429113/Cv/4'>prostaglandin H2</scene> (PGH2). PGH2, in turn, is converted by other enzymes to several other [[prostaglandins]] (which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever) and to thromboxane A2 (which stimulates platelet aggregation, leading to the formation of blood clots).
