The objective of this assignment is to make a web page that describes and illustrates the 3D structural characteristics of your topic.
 +
As part of your research project, you will also be developing a proteopedia (http://proteopedia.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) page showing the important structural characteristics of the topic you are researching. If you are looking at a disease, your page would include structure of the proteins that are mutated, and talk about how that causes the disease. It may also include drugs used to treat the disease, and talk about how the drug remedies the disease state.

If you are working on a drug:
 +
• Show structure of the drug.
 +
• Show structure of the drug in the context of the protein structure. (glutamate structure
 +
• Compare the location of the drug in comparison to the active site.
 +
• Show the contacts or attractions that are present between the drug and the remainder of the protein.
 +
• Identify types of contacts (intermolecular forces) that are present between the drug and the protein.

The text that you use on your proteopedia page SHOULD NOT duplicate the research report you turn in separately. Your proteopedia page should focus specifically on how structure relates to your topic.

Revision as of 18:06, 28 April 2013

This Sandbox is Reserved from 30/01/2013, through 30/12/2013 for use in the course "Biochemistry II" taught by Hannah Tims at the Messiah College. This reservation includes Sandbox Reserved 686 through Sandbox Reserved 700.
To get started:
  • Click the edit this page tab at the top. Save the page after each step, then edit it again.
  • Click the 3D button (when editing, above the wikitext box) to insert Jmol.
  • show the Scene authoring tools, create a molecular scene, and save it. Copy the green link into the page.
  • Add a description of your scene. Use the buttons above the wikitext box for bold, italics, links, headlines, etc.
