BbCRASP-1 protein is located on surface of the spirochaete and is specifically produced and transmitted during tik to mammal transmission stage. This BbCRASP-1 protein is the one responsible for binding both factor H and factor H like protein 1 of the host , hereby helping the bacteria to evade the host's defense during this critical transmission stage.

-
The BbCRASP-1 has two parts that actually help in the binding process, namely C-terminus and the central cleft.
