[[http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/CDC42_HUMAN CDC42_HUMAN]] Plasma membrane-associated small GTPase which cycles between an active GTP-bound and an inactive GDP-bound state. In active state binds to a variety of effector proteins to regulate cellular responses. Involved in epithelial cell polarization processes. Regulates the bipolar attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochores before chromosome congression in metaphase. Plays a role in the extension and maintenance of the formation of thin, actin-rich surface projections called filopodia. Mediates CDC42-dependent cell migration.<ref>PMID:14978216</ref> <ref>PMID:15642749</ref> <ref>PMID:17038317</ref> [[http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/SOPB_SALTY SOPB_SALTY]] Converts phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns 3,4,5-P3) to PtdIns 3-P and prevents the transition of PtdIns 3-P to PtdIns 3,5-P2. It is one of the known effectors injected by Salmonella into the host cell and is required for invasion and for an efficient generation and maintenance of Salmonella-containing vacuole (SVC). Alteration of the phosphoinositide composition of the plasma membrane causes membrane ruffling and actin cytoskeleton rearrangements. The persistence of PtdIns 3-P diverts the SCV from the endocytic pathway resulting in enlarged vesicles, which are essential to create a favorable environment where Salmonella can replicate and avoid immune defenses of the host cell.<ref>PMID:11244077</ref> <ref>PMID:11136447</ref> <ref>PMID:12360287</ref> <ref>PMID:15205533</ref>
