Step 8 of the Krebs cycle: Malat-Dehydrogenase

This final reaction closes the krebs cycle. here, L-malate is transformed into oxal acetate. The hydroxy group of L-malate (in yellow) is oxidized to an α-keto group and the released protons are picked up by NAD+, which then is reduced to NADH + H+.
