Bcl-2 family members and notably Bcl-2 protein seem to play an important role in autoimmune diseases, along with the gene Bim. This gene encodes a protein Bcl-2L11 (Bcl-2 like) belonging to the Bcl-2 family. It controls the apoptosis of T and B lymphocytes as a proapoptotic.
