[[Ribosomal protein S1]] (RPS1) is one of the 21 proteins which belong to the 30S small subunit of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacteria bacterial] ribosome or the 30 proteins which belong to the 40S small subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome. It participates in translation initiation of many mRNAs and plays a role in translation elongation<ref>PMID:22908248</ref>. It consists of 6 repeats of 70-residue domains able to bind single-stranded nucleic acids named OB folds.
