The Escherichia coli NifS CsdB protein is a member of the homodimeric pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP)-dependent family of enzymes. These enzymes are capable of decomposing cysteine or selenocysteine into L-alanine and sulfur or selenium, respectively.
