Rhamnogalacturonan lyase (RG-lyase) specifically recognizes and cleaves alpha-1,4 glycosidic bonds between L-rhamnose and D-galacturonic acids in the backbone of rhamnogalacturonan-I, a major component of the plant cell wall polysaccharide, pectin.
