[https://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/FTNA_PSEAE FTNA_PSEAE] Plays a role in catalase A (katA) expression; activity is required for optimal KatA activity and resistance to H(2)O(2) (PubMed:10368148). Iron-storage protein that is part of the heterooligomeric bacterioferritin (BFR) complex (PubMed:35327558, PubMed:7998985). The ferroxidase center binds Fe(2+), oxidizes it using dioxygen to Fe(3+), and participates in subsequent Fe(3+) oxide mineral core formation within the central cavity of the BFR protein shell (PubMed:21574546). Can store up to 520 iron atoms per ferritin protein molecule (PubMed:21574546). Iron release requires only the input of electrons from ferredoxin NADP reductase (FPR), does not require Bfd (PubMed:21574546). Does not bind heme (PubMed:21574546).<ref>PMID:10368148</ref> <ref>PMID:21574546</ref> <ref>PMID:35327558</ref> <ref>PMID:7998985</ref> <ref>PMID:21574546</ref>
