TATA-binding protein (TBP) binds to TATA box in DNA and is part of the RNA polymerase II transcription complex. The transcription factor proteins are named TFIIA to TFIIH. TBP is part of TFIID. Its interaction with DNA initiates the DNA strands separation. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative TBP, i.e. the crystal structure of yeast TATA-binding protein (1tbp).
