Porin is made of 18 beta strands surrounding a hydrophilic pore, which is charged and polar. The surface of porin is hydrophobic, because it interacts with neighboring alkane chains. In another of the protein, the hydrophilic pore is visible in the porin. (There are three porins attached to each other in the image.)
