חלבוני הלוואי: Protein Folding Chaperones השפירונים הינם חלבונים שעוזרים לחלבונים אחרים להתקפל ו/או ממעיטים עד למינימום אירועים של מסלולים לא רצויים של חלבונים בתוך התא. השפירונים קושרים, באופן סלקטיבי, חלבונים לא מקופלים ויוצרים עימם קומפלקסים יציבים יחסית. בהרבה מהמקרים, הקומפלקסים מתפרקים תוך כדי וע"י קישור והידרוליזה של ATP. דוגמה לשפירון: GroEL
