Cyi is the Colicin Immunity Protein produced by E. coli alongside Colicin Y to protect itself from the pore-forming cytotoxic domain of the Colicin, by inserting itself into the cell membrane and preventing the colicin from doing the same. This prevents membrane depolarisation by the colicin, so the cell is not killed.
