Aquaporin are membrane spanning channels transporting water, glycerol and othe small solutes. The family is divided into two different subgroups, the orthodox aquaporins and the aquaglyceroporins with each family having a different transport specificity. Both families share a common fold with 6 transmembrane helices and a seventh pseudohelix formed by two of the loops.
