Bacteriophage Lambda Repressor cI
cI is a transcription inhibitor of bacteriophage Lambda. Also known as Lambda Repressor, cI is responsible for maintaining the lysogenic life cycle of phage Lambda. This is achieved by cI through repression of the cro gene and the cI gene, which code for proteins Cro and cI, respectively. Transition from the lysogenic to lytic life cycle will not occur unless the cellular concentration of Cro becomes larger than the cellular concentration of cI.
