מבנה החלבון
משפחה של חלבונים מסוג גליקופרוטאינים, הנקשרים לביוטין בחוזקה. החלבון מהווה אחוז קטן מחלבון הביצה של זוחלים, עופות ודו-חיים וכן קיים בחיידקים וביצורים נוספים. הקישור הספציפי של האבידין לביוטין אפשר את השימוש באבידין ככלי במחקרים רבים, בשל הקישור החזק בין הביוטין לאבידין, שהוא אחד מהקישורים הלא קוולנטיים החזקים ביותר בטבע. החלבון פעיל בטווח רחב של טמפרטורות ו-pH.
