Pyrin domain (PYD) is a protein domain known as death fold. This domain allows the protein to interact with other pyrin domains. It is also known as PYD or PAAD/DAPIN or marenostrin domain. Proteins containing pyrin domain are involved in inflammation and apoptosis. The NALP proteins contain domains NACHT, LRR and PYD and are part of the inflammasome. A 781-amino acid protein named pyrin contains a PYD domain in its N-terminal. Mutations in the protein are the cause of Familial Mediterranean fever.
