It is essential for mammalian hearing. Pre is a membranal anion transporter[2]. See RTAS domainof the SLC26 anion transporter prestin. Disease Mutations in Pre are associated with non-syndromic hearing loss. Structural highlights Pre C-terminal is mainly composed of a STAS (Sulfate Transporters and Anti-Sigma factor antagonist) domain[3].
