Ribosomal protein S1 (RPS1) is one of the 21 proteins which belong to the 30S small subunit of the bacterial ribosome or the 30 proteins which belong to the 40S small subunit of the eukaryotic ribosome. It participates in translation initiation of many mRNAs and plays a role in translation elongation[1]. It consists of 6 repeats of 70-residue domains able to bind single-stranded nucleic acids named OB folds.
