This is a transcriptional repressor protein from E. coli. It binds specifically to particular sequences. You can see how the parts of the protein interact with the edges of the bases in both the major and minor grooves.

Here it is showing the . Look how it 'fits' into the major and minor grooves. This is a highly specific binding protein and only binds to this sequence. This is a chemical interaction.
