Ftsz assembles into a ring at the site of the septum in bacterial cell division. Ftsz stands for Filamenting Temperature-Sensitive mutant Z. Ftsz can bind GTP and hydrolyze it to GDP[1]. ZapA, ZapB, ZapC, ZapD (Z-Associated Protein) are regulators which modulate the dynamics of the FtsZ ring at midcell division site[2]. Structural highlights (PDB code 1w5b).
