Structural Description

NKX2.5 belongs to the NK2-family of homeodomain transcription factors. These

homeodomain proteins function to regulate the transcription of genes important for development. Proteins in the NK2-family regulate the development of structures through DNA binding at an endogenous site. These proteins are classified by the conservation of Try54, which is essential for promoter site recognition. The NK2-family also includes a C-terminal regulatory domain. NKX2.5 is of particular interest as it has been shown to mediate carcinogenesis.
