Glycogenesis

Glycogenesis is the process of glycogen synthesis, in which glucose molecules are added to chains of glycogen for storage. This process is activated during rest periods following the Cori cycle, in the liver, and also activated by insulin in response to high glucose levels.

Step 1

is converted into by the action of glucokinase or hexokinase with conversion of ATP to ADP.

Step 2

Glucose-6-phosphate is converted into by the action of phosphoglucomutase (e.g. Rabbit muscle phosphoglucomutase 1jdy), passing through the obligatory intermediate glucose-1,6-bisphosphate.
