The OCA Database and Browser was developed in 1996 by Jaime Prilusky of the Bioinformatics Unit, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.
Oca is the spanish word for goose, but many suspect that it was selected inspired by Arthur C. Clarke's science-fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey.
