Introduction

Oct-1, or Octamer-binding protein 1, is a DNA binding protein that belongs to the class 2 POU domain. The acronym POU originates from the three transcription factors in this class, including Pit-1, Octamer transcription factor proteins, and Unc-86. POU proteins serve various functions, but are all related to assisting in the function of the neuroendocrine system.
