HGFA converts HGF from its latent single-chain form to a heterodimeric active form. HGFA is synthesized as an inactive precursor which is converted to a heterodimer via proteolysis as a result of tissue injury[1]. Disease Relevance Lower activity of HGFA results in impaired regeneration of damaged mucosal epithelium and may contribute to the progression of fibrotic lung cancer[2]. Structural highlights
