Function
Hypoxia-Inducible factor 1 alpha inhibitor (FIH-1) is an inhibitor of Hypoxia-Inducible Factors 1 alpha (HIF-1). HIF-1 is a master regulator of oxygen homeostasis via transcription activation. Thus, FIH-1 is an inhibitor of transcriptional activation [1]. FIH-1 is an oxygen-dependent asparagine Hydroxylase [2].
Relevance
Mutations in SAP affect the aggregation of mutated lysozyme which cause amyloidosis. The inhibition of SAP binding to amyloid fibrils is a therapeutic target in some serious human diseases[3]. Small molecule ligands can displace SAP from amyloid fibrils and can provide therapeutic treatment of amyloidosis.
