Melanocortin 1 Receptor
Melanocortin 1 Receptor is a member of a subgroup of class A G-protein coupled receptors found on both leukocytes and melanocytes. where skin pigments are synthesised. MC1R also regulates UV responses and melanoma risk.
Function
Signalling from MCR1 proves to be the main factor dictating melanogenesis from genetic, biochemical and pharmacological evidence. It initiates the formation of the skin pigments, eumelanin and pheomelanin, in melanosomes which form in melanocytes.
