Function
PORTL_LAMBD Forms the portal vertex of the capsid (PubMed:6228056, PubMed:6232391). This portal plays critical roles in head assembly, genome packaging, neck/tail attachment, and genome ejection (Probable). The portal protein multimerizes as a single ring-shaped homododecamer arranged around a central channel (PubMed:6232391). Binds to the terminase subunits to form the packaging machine (PubMed:7799432).[HAMAP-Rule:MF_04135][1] [2] [3]
