Crystal structure of full-length human Elastase (Metalloproteinase-12), 3ba0

Template:STRUCTURE 3ba0

Elastase (ELA) is a chymotrypsin-like protease which breaks down proteins. The ELAs are numbered according to their genes. ELA2 (or PMN-ELA) is secreted by neutrophils during inflammation. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative elastase structure, i.e. the human Matrix Metalloproteinase-12 (MMP12), which is macrophage ELA (3ba0). Calcium ions are shown as green balls, zinc ions are grey balls and acetohydroxamic acid is shown as space filling object.
