Elastase
From Proteopedia
Elastase (ELA) is a chymotrypsin-like protease which breaks down proteins. The ELAs are numbered according to their genes. ELA2 (or PMN-ELA) is secreted by neutrophils during inflammation. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative elastase structure, i.e. the human Matrix Metalloproteinase-12 (MMP12), which is macrophage ELA (3ba0). Calcium ions are shown as green balls, zinc ions are grey balls and acetohydroxamic acid is shown as space filling object. For additional details see Serine Proteases.
