Homocitrate synthase (HS) participates in lysine biosynthesis and pyruvate metabolism. HS catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA + H2O + 2-oxoglutarate to 2-hydroxybutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylate + CoA.
