FaeE-FaeG chaperone-major pilin complex of F4 ad fimbriae

Template:ABSTRACT PUBMED 19799915

Function

[FAEE_ECOLX] Mediates assembly of pili by forming soluble multimeric complexes with pili subunits as an intermediate step in the assembly process. This protein is involved in K88 pili assembly. Protects pilin protein from proteolytic degradation by DegP and from premature polymerization. [FAEG3_ECOLX] K88 major fimbrial subunit. Fimbriae (also called pili), are polar filaments radiating from the surface of the bacterium to a length of 0.5-1.5 micrometers and numbering 100-300 per cell. They enable bacteria to colonize the epithelium of specific host organs.
