Plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) is a serine protease inhibitor. PAI-1 inhibits tissue plasminogen activator and urokinase. PAI-2 is secreted by the placenta and is present during pregnancy. PAI-3 inhibits enzymes in blood coagulation.
