Ribosomal protein S21 (RPS21) is one of the 22 proteins which belong to the of the bacterial ribosome. It is found only in eubacteria, plant chloroplasts and mammalian mitochondria. It is involved in the initiation of polypeptide synthesis. The images at the left and at the right correspond to one representative RPS21, i.e. the crystal structure of Ribosomal protein S21 from Escherichia coli (3kc4, chain U).
