is an enzyme involved in the synthesis of a unique thiol trypanothione. Trypanothione synthetase is absent in human thus making it a potential drug target for anti-trypanosomatids drugs. The protein is comprised of having independent functions. The N-terminal domain also known as a cysteine, histidine-dependent amidohydrolase/peptidase amidase (CHAP) or the amindase domain is a cysteine protease while the C-terminal domain or the synthase domain carry out ATP dependent synthesis of trypanothione from glutathione and glutathionyl spermidine.
