Melanocortin 1 Receptor
Melanocortin 1 Receptor is a G coupled protein found on both leukocytes and melanocytes where skin pigments are synthesised. MC1R also regulates UV responses and melanoma risk.
Function
MCR1 is a primary regulator of melanin synthesis as it initiates the formation of the skin pigments, eumelanin and pheomelanin, in melanosomes which form in melanocytes.
