Key Information
CcpA is a transcription factor that mediates carbon catabolite repression in Gram-positive bacteria. In the presence of preferred carbon sources, it forms a complex with its cofactor HPr(Ser-P). This complex binds specific operator sites (called cre, catabolite responsive elements) resulting in transcriptional repression or activation of the target genes.
CcpA has been best sudied in Bacillus subtilis.
