I am an undergraduate student entering my fourth and final year of study at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. In May of 2011, I will receive a B.A. degree in chemistry and Asian studies. After St. Olaf, I hope to be selected for a Fulbright fellowship in Japan (potentially doing research on protein folding), after which I will return to the United States to attend graduate school, most likely in structural biology. My overall research interests are in protein and nucleic acid structure, molecular visualization, and protein folding. In the summer of 2009, I did research on the characterization of protein secondary structure using quaternions; this summer (2010), I have been doing research with finding new ways to visualize ribosomal structures.
