It is known to bind to the 5S RRNA from the large subunit. In the archaea like in Haloarcula marismortui, the L5 is called L5P (RPL5P). Relevance Mutations in RPL5 are associated with cleft palate and abnormal thumbs in Diamond-Blackfan anemia patients[2].
