The arylsulfatase name is derived from the fact that nitrophenyl-sulfate is their standard substrate. Arylsulfatase A hydrolyzes cerebroside-sulfate. Arylsulfatase B hydrolyzes dermatan sulfate. Alkylsulfatase hydrolyzes SDS and other alkyl sulfate derivatives. Estrone sulfatase hydrolyzes sulfated steroids.
