My name is Ziad Ganim and I am currently a postdoctoral fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Society working in the group of Matthias Rief at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. I am using single molecule force experiments to study protein folding and binding.

My thesis work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Andrei Tokmakoff resulted in the development of new techniques in ultrafast two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy to reveal transient structural changes by direct comparisons to molecular dynamics simulations.

I am fascinated by how evolution has fine-tuned proteins and protein complexes to perform every process associated with life -- with high specificity in noisy environments.

My research goals are broadly aimed at a molecular-level understanding and manipulation of these phenomena driven by technological developments in spectroscopic and computational tools.

I was born in Long Island, New York, and grew up in the Los Angeles area.
