Voltage Gated Sodium Channel
From Proteopedia

Introduction
The voltage-gated sodium (Nav) channels are transmembrane ion-transporters that participate in the generation of action potentials in electrically excitable cells. Nav channels facilitate the sodium current between intracellular and extracellular domains. This flow of sodium ions is responsible for the rapid depolarization upstroke observed in action potentials, the primary mode of cell-to-cell communication in neuronal, muscular, and endocrine cells. To date, there have been upwards of 1000 point mutations in Nav channels associated with disorders, including various cardiac arrhythmias, neuronal disorders (such as epilepsy, familial autism, and neuropathic pain), and muscle paralysis.
